Retreats
With our own 178-acre retreat facility in the Appalachia mountains (almost heaven!), we have a perfect environment for students of all faiths and traditions to partake in Campus Ministry retreats. We offer various overnight and day/evening retreats providing the WU community unique opportunities for reflection, to experience community, and cultivate spiritual growth.

Retreats
Freshman Overnight Retreat
The Freshman Overnight Retreat, held in both the Fall and Spring semesters, offers first year students an opportunity to get to know one another, to reflect on their past, and to focus on their futures. Through a series of talks, prayer experiences, and sharing, students can prayerfully reflect on the transition from high school to college with some basic elements of Jesuit spirituality infused with a lot of fun.
Kairos Retreat
Kairos weekend retreats focus on encountering Christ in a small-retreat community pondering God’s role in their lives. Wheeling University students and Jesuit high school graduates, among others, lead this three-day retreat at Lantz Farm.
Time Out Retreat
A “retreat in daily life,” designed to fit into a busy student’s schedule, the TIME OUT RETREAT asks only for a commitment to 15 minutes of daily prayer and regular individual meetings with a spiritual director. Renew your prayer life, see God working in your daily activities, and deepen your sense of Ignatian spirituality. The TIME OUT RETREAT is offered second semester, during Lent, and many students continue the spiritual direction relationship well beyond the schedule of the retreat.
Young at Heart Professional Retreat
An overnight for professional staff, faculty, and coaches to reflect on who Jesuits are, how they are different, and what it means to work at a Jesuit school. This year we based the group discussion off of the book The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything, by James Martin, S.J..
Living the Fourth Retreat
This peer-led weekend retreat is offered for upperclassmen who have already participated in a Kairos Retreat. Each weekend focuses on topics that impact one’s relationship with God, self and others. Living the Fourth weekends are held at Lantz Farm in Wetzel County, West Virginia.
Silent Weekend Retreat
This is an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to take a weekend away for quiet prayer. Each retreatant will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a spiritual director who helps guide the retreatant’s prayer.
Ignatian Spirituality Retreat
This retreat weekend focuses on several topics related to Ignatian Spirituality. Presentations are given by WU faculty and administration. There will be time for individual prayer and meditation.
Senior Afternoon of Reflection
This evening retreat of prayer and sharing, planned by graduating Seniors and Campus Ministry staff, takes place during Senior Week. Seniors reflect on their time at Wheeling University and enter into their lives after Wheeling University.
Other Retreat Experiences
We can provide various specifically tailored retreat experiences periodically and on request. Your club, organization or athletic team might benefit from overnight and day/evening experiences. Please let us know how we can serve you!
