Student Services at Wheeling University is in full swing as the holiday season approaches. Much of the student centered momentum began with the naming of Andrew Lewis as Vice President and Chief Student Services Officerat the beginning of the fall semester. Lewis’ team, the majority of whom are also newly hired, are focused on ensuring students are aware of the on-campus resources available to them and helping students engage and connect with the campus community at large.

With nearly 14 years’ experience working in higher education, Lewis has developed a strong network of resources and personal connections throughout West Virginia that position him well for success at Wheeling University. He is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Organization Learning and Leadership and is active in the West Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators (WVASPA), a statewide student affairs organization.

“My Student Services team and I have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create something new and different at Wheeling University,” said Lewis. “Every day, we arrive on campus with a student-first mentality that we carry with us throughout the day. Our goal is to make a positive, lasting impression on students.”

Under Lewis’ leadership, the Student Services department is developing successful programming that is responsive to student needs while also being creative and fun. In that vein, Student Services actively listens to the campus community. Lewis adds: “Our doors and our minds are always open to fresh ideas.”

The new Student Services team is off to an impressive start. Together since mid-August 2019, they collaborate with the Student Government Association and Campus Activities Board to organize weekly events on and off campus. Such events have included a week long homecoming celebration, family weekend, haunted house and the Cards Got Talent show. In the coming weeks the department will host the long standing finals week tradition, where faculty and staff serve students at the late night breakfast event. As the semester winds down and students head home for the fast approaching winter break, Lewis and his team are already planning a full schedule of fresh new events for the Wheeling U campus next year.
