Joseph J. Mastracci is an Ohio Valley native and 2017 graduate of Wheeling Jesuit’s Master of Educational Leadership program. The Educational Leadership program at Jesuit was the key to open doors in his career. Mastracci said, “The program challenged me and grew me. The impact on my career was immediate. I was given practical and useful knowledge that I could apply immediately to my practice as an educator. Further, I felt confident to reach for my professional leadership goals after my completion of the program. Immediately after obtaining my degree, professional opportunities presented themselves to me that I could not pursue before completion of the program. I was empowered to chase my goals.”
Mastracci is a graduate of Shadyside High School in Ohio. He also is an alumnus of Ohio University where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Middle Childhood Education. Mastracci is currently using his graduate degree working for the West Virginia Department of Education in the Office of Special Education as the Numeracy Coordinator. Mastracci taught mathematics in both Ohio and Marshall Counties prior to coming to the West Virginia Department of Education in March of 2018. Since his graduation at Wheeling Jesuit, Mastracci has been invited to speak on topics like mathematics content, instructional frameworks, and classroom best practices at state-wide conferences and in local school districts. Currently, one of his major collaborative projects is the West Virginia Department of Education’s math4life campaign and website. The campaign is designed to tackle a plethora of issues facing the state in the realm of mathematics while offering support to all stakeholders.
Mastracci presently lives near Charleston, West Virginia with wife and children.
