Wheeling University June Update
Dear Wheeling University Community,
Alumni Weekend was held on June 20-22. The weekend attracted alumni from across the country. Thank you to Kelly Klubert, Vice President of Advancement, and members of the Alumni Council for their help throughout the event. Congratulations once again to our three award winners, Dick Riley ’84, Monsignor Joseph Peterson ’71 (posthumously), and Grace Williams ’13. We hope our alumni enjoyed being back at Wheeling University.
Mr. David Hendrickson, Board Chair, and Dan Haller, Board Member, spoke to Alumni during the Coffee and Conversation session.

Father John Rice, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, joined the alumni at the Alumni Awards Dinner held in Troy Theater.

Academics
Dr. Zahra Mohebbi, Chair of the Business Programs, proudly accepted the 10-year accreditation reaffirmation certificate on behalf of the Business Department during the ACBSP (Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs) International Accreditation Annual Conference. The event, held in Las Vegas, brought together business education leaders from around the world to celebrate academic excellence and continuous improvement. This prestigious reaffirmation marks a significant milestone, underscoring the department’s sustained commitment to high-quality education, rigorous academic standards, and the professional development of its students and faculty.
Dr. Zahra Mohebbi has completed the required training and is now certified as an ACBSP Accreditation Evaluator. This certification allows her to serve on peer review teams, helping assess and uphold quality standards in business education worldwide.

The Wheeling University Doctor of Physical Therapy students presented their capstone projects on June 27. Following the presentations, the students received their White Coats signifying the end of their didactic coursework and the beginning of their two final clinical education experiences.
Education major, Kaitlyn Cochran, received a $500 scholarship from the Woman’s Club of Wheeling. Read more here.

Iggy, the Wheeling University mascot, represented the University at the Washington Wild Things Mascot-a-Palooza. Mascots from various businesses and sports teams gathered in honor of the Wild Things birthday. Iggy visited with alumni and fans for photos. Thank you, Iggy!

The Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced that 102 Wheeling University student-athletes were named to the Winter/Spring Academic All-MEC list. Click here to see view the students who were honored.
Be sure to check out the Athletic web page to read highlights from the past season and current news.

Physical Plant
The Physical Plant staff is busy preparing the campus for summer events and camps. Recently, Wheeling University received a new television from a generous donor. It hangs outside the RATT. During Alumni Weekend, Peter Roedersheimer and Jim-Wah Wong stood in front of the television that displays events, photos, and news.

Student Affairs
The RATT is open. The grand opening was held during Alumni Weekend. We look forward to our students enjoy time in the RATT when they return in Fall 2025. Pictured below are Dick Riley, his wife Shelley, Tom Toddy and Jerry Schroer who visited the Ratt during Alumni Weekend.

As always, let me extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire Wheeling University Community for your support.
Sincerely,

Dianna M. Vargo, Ed.D.
