Wheeling University Rugby Teams Named Grand Marshals for Fantasy in Lights Parade

Wheeling, W. Va., Nov. 18 – Wheeling University’s Men’s and Women’s Rugby teams have been chosen as one of the two grand marshals for Wheeling’s Fantasy in Lights Parade set for Friday, Nov. 21.

Parade organizers selected the rugby teams to recognize both programs for winning national championships last year. The teams will walk in front of the University’s float, entry number 44, carrying a banner to mark this recognition. 

Coaches for the teams expressed their excitement to serve as the parade grand marshal.

Wheeling University Head Men’s Rugby Coach Maxwell Hamilton said, “The team has put in a lot of time and effort into making Wheeling Men’s Rugby what it is today, and the boys are proud to be leader on campus, on the field, and in the Wheeling Community. We are excited to ring in the holiday season with this great community and help kick-off this yearly tradition.”

Ken Pape, head coach for the women’s rugby program said the support from the community is overwhelming.

“I couldn’t be more honored and appreciative of everything that Wheeling University and the Wheeling community have provided for this team. We are excited to help the city ring in this holiday season,” Pape said.

The 40th Annual Main Street Bank Fantasy in Lights Parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Live coverage will start at 6:30 p.m. on WTRF-TV Channel 7 and WTRF.com.
