Wheeling University to Host Homecoming Weekend Events

Wheeling, W. Va., October 9 – Wheeling University alumni and parents of students are invited to Homecoming 2026, set for October 16-18. The weekend features athletics events, student activities, socials, and the President’s Red Zone Tailgate. 

The weekend begins on Friday, October 16, with registration from 3 – 6 p.m. outside of The Ratt inside Swint Hall. All pre-registered guests can pick-up their registration packets and gift. Wheeling University President Dianna Vargo, Ed.D., will then host the President’s Welcome Reception inside The RATT beginning at 5 p.m. 

The fun continues on Donahue Lawn, when the Cardinal Spirit Night and S’mores event begins at 6 p.m. This event is open to all students, alumni and parents.

Two athletic games are schedule for Friday evening. The Cardinal Volleyball team will take on Concord inside the Alma Grace McDonough Center beginning at 6 p.m. The Men’s Rugby team will play St. Bonaventure at 6:30 p.m. on Bishop Schmit Field.

Alumni, parents and students can stop by The Ratt following the Friday night games to socialize.

Saturday, registration opens inside of the McDonough Center at 9 a.m. A Cardinal Alumni Swim event will begin at 9 a.m. inside the McDonough Center Natatorium. 

The President’s Red Zone Tailgate, which will be under the Bishop Schmitt Field scoreboard, begins at 11 a.m. The Cardinal Homecoming Festival, where student clubs, teams, and organization will host tables and games, also begins at 11 a.m. on Donahue Lawn.

The Cardinals vs. West Virginia State football game kicks off at noon. During halftime, the 2026 Homecoming Court will be announced, and the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned. 

Following football, the Volleyball team takes on Shawnee State, starting at 4 p.m. inside the McDonough Center.

Sunday’s schedule begins at 9 a.m. when the Alumni Council meets in the CET building. The meeting will be followed by Mass in the Chapel of Mary and Joseph.
