The Challenger Center at WJU finished up their Smith-Goshen Rice Enrichment Grant with Bellaire Middle School and St. John’s middle school with a combined mission at the Bellaire Public Library.  The Challenger Center was awarded $2,500 from the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley (CFOV) and its affiliate, the Smith-Goshen Rice Enrichment Fund, who present grants to organizations supporting projects throughout Belmont County. Among other groups throughout the year, this grant helped provide the approximately twenty students the unique distance learning experience.

Jackie Shia Director of the Challenger Center noted “It was a great event and the students loved it.”  Theresa Kwiatkowski, Program Specialist of the Bellaire Public agreed “Everyone did such a great job to make this e-mission a success and the students loved it….they kept saying thank you so much and that it was exciting and they had fun! Our children will have a brighter future for being able to work with you.” Bellaire Public Library provided a pizza lunch to the students during their visit as well.

The Challenger Center has also started their Summer Library Kick off Events, with the first one taking place in Barnesville where the team worked with approximately 200 students in their rocket challenge.
