Seasoned Education Professional to Serve as Disabilities Coordinator at Wheeling University
Wheeling, W.Va., July 28 – Wheeling University President, Dr. Dianna Vargo announced today that Nancy Weeks will serve as the Disabilities Coordinator for the institution.
Weeks, who spent 43 years in public education in the Belmont and Ohio county school systems, will begin this new role on August 1. She will continue to be an adjunct instructor in the Education Department at Wheeling as well.
“Nancy brings a great deal of experience and knowledge to the position, which will benefit our students, said Dr. Vargo.
Weeks will be responsible to provide guidance to both students and faculty regarding appropriate accommodations to ensure student success.
“I bring to this role four decades of experience in developing and reviewing individual educational plans for students,” Weeks said. “Perhaps the most significant change is that I will be on campus and can meet with both students and faculty in person. I plan to establish consistent office hours, so both students and staff can speak with me directly,” she explained.
Weeks holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in Special Education form West Liberty. She earned a master’s degree in Special Education-Specific Learning Disabilities from WVU. Additionally, Weeks received a master’s degree and post graduate Education Specialist degrees from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. She also has a Certificate in Educational Administration from Franciscan University.
For the past three years, Weeks has been an adjunct at Wheeling University, teaching courses in the Education Program. In 2023, she retired after more than four decades in education related positions. She worked for 32 years in Belmont County, Ohio, as a School Psychologist and Special Education Coordinator. Weeks worked for 10 years in the Ohio County School system, serving as an Intervention Specialist.
Born and raised in Ohio County, she remains a resident in the county, along with her husband Bradley. She has one son, Marcus, daughter-in-law Rachell and two granddaughters, Carrie and Rose.
