Wheeling University May Update

Dear Wheeling University Community,

The Wheeling University 67th Commencement Ceremony was held on May 3. Degrees were conferred upon 212 doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate students. Valedictorian Jade Miller told her classmates, “Wheeling University taught me that it is the people who make the place … Thank you, God, for bringing us to this very moment in this very place.” Fr. David Griffin, Director of Campus Ministry, was the Commencement speaker and told the Class of 2025 to make their dreams happen.

Academics

Dr. Bryan Raudenbush, Doctor of Physical Therapy faculty, presented research posters created by members of the Doctor of Physical Therapy faculty at the 2025 World Physiotherapy Congress in Tokyo. The research was done by Raudenbush, Dr. Krissy Grubler, Dr. Rhonda Haley, and Dr. Alison Kreger. 

Jill Emery, Chair of Nursing, was presented the Fr. Edward Gannon Outstanding Teaching Award at the 67thCommencement Ceremony.

The 2025-2026 Faculty Council members were elected. The Faculty Council Chair will be Dr. Missy Bozovich, Director of Athletic Training and Exercise Science. Other members are Troy Adamson, Instructor of Biology; Teresa Busick, Instructor of Psychology; Dr. Paula Makris, Professor of English; and Sarah Pettit, Instructor of Exercise Science.

More than 280 students were named to the Spring 2025 Dean’s List for having earned a 3.5 grade point average or higher. To view those who achieved this honor, click here.

Admissions

The Office of Admissions is preparing for the New Student Orientation on June 13. Students will have the opportunity to meet with the Dean of Students, the Financial Aid Director, the Registrar, and their Academic Advisors.

Alumni/Advancement

Dr. John Yasinsky, class of 1961, endowed the new Alumni Math and Science Scholarship. The University is grateful to Dr. Yasinsky for his generous support of our students.

The deadline to register for the 2025 Alumni Weekend is June 13.  Three alumni will be honored on Saturday evening in the following categories: professional achievements, community service, and dedication to the University. Click here to make your reservation.

Athletics

The Athletic Department recently announced that 10 inductees and one special honoree will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame during Homecoming Weekend on October 4. This year’s class represents inductees from five different sports. The University will also recognize Alma Grace McDonough, whose support of Wheeling University financed the athletic facility named in her honor. Campus Ministry

Sunday Mass will be held at 11 a.m. only during the summer months. Additionally, no daily Masses will be offered until students return to campus on August 25.

Physical Plant

Summer painting has started in rooms, hallways, and bathrooms in Sara Tracy Hall. Additionally, two new air conditioning units are being installed at the Chapel of Mary and Joseph. 

Student Life

The University welcomed more than 40 new students to the first Orientation of the year on May 12. Student Life and the Office of Admissions worked together to provide the students and their parents with informative sessions about financial aid, academic programs, and campus activities. The day ended with fun activities on Donahue Lawn and  frozen treats from Ziegenfelder Cool Treats.
