Wheeling University May Update

Dear Wheeling University Community,

The Wheeling University 68th Commencement Ceremony was held on May 9. Degrees were conferred upon 185 doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate students. Co-Valedictorians, Andy Schmidt and Cameron Zinn, gave remarks during the ceremony. Andy Schmidt said faith was his guide while at Wheeling University. “‘Colossians 3:23 reminds us: ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.’ That verse has shaped my approach to everything I do. Dedication isn’t just about achievement. It’s about giving your whole heart to what matters most.” Cameron Zinn quoted a Bible passage from Matthew, “‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ This verse calls us to recognize Christ in every person we encounter and reminds us that in serving others with compassion and dignity we are serving Him directly.”

Alumnus Gerald Schroer, Jr., from the class of 1986, served as the Commencement speaker and offered thoughtful, life lessons to our graduates. “I hope you remember these brief thoughts. I hope you give back to your family, friends, and communities in ways you never imagined. I hope you always take the high road. Serve others. Protect your friendships and family. Keep your faith. And always remember, anything is possible.”
