Wheeling University & West Virginia Northern Community College sign transfer agreement for Engineering and Construction Management program

WHEELING, W.Va., March 26 – Wheeling University (WU) and West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) signed a transfer agreement for their Engineering and Construction Management program today. Upon obtaining an Associate in Science Degree from WVNCC, students can now seamlessly transfer to WU to pursue their Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. 

This partnership between the two schools provides students with an easy transition with the sharing of application and admissions information, transcripts, and other records. When students enroll at WVNCC, they will be dually enrolled, meaning they will also take classes at WU at the same time they are taking classes at WVNCC. When students complete 60 credits required from WVNCC, they obtain their Associate of Science Degree with concentration in Engineering and Construction Management.

“The agreement was a natural fit for the missions of both institutions, and we are eager to help WVNCC students continue their journey and earn a four-year degree. This agreement provides students even greater options for their education and career. Students can earn an associate degree and enter the workforce – but still, have the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Construction Management at Wheeling University. It also allows students who want to begin their education at WVNCC, and continue at Wheeling University, peace of mind to know that their credits will be accepted at the four-year university – and the time and money invested will be recognized. This agreement and relationship benefits our community, students, and the local workforce,” said Ginny R. Favede, President of Wheeling University.

This agreement will have a profound effect on our students’ lives,” commented WVNCC President Dr. Daniel Mosser. “This transfer articulation agreement creates a seamless 2 + 2 pathway for students to pursue a four-year engineering degree.”

When students enroll at WU, they can select WU’s engineering track or construction management track. The engineering science major is structured around electrical, industrial and mechanical engineering topics. The curriculum combines mathematics and sciences with fundamental engineering courses that stress analytical study with hands-on laboratory work. The curriculum is designed to allow students to seek professional licensure while working as engineers or to enter graduate study in a variety of engineering fields.

The construction management program prepares students currently working in or wishing to enter the construction industry. Job opportunities as residential builders and contractors; trade contractors such as plumbing firms or other companies, government agencies, and organizations involved in the construction of the built environment are possible with the completion of this degree.

Founded in 1972, WVNCC offers transfer degrees and programs in the Liberal Arts, Career-Technical programs, and Community and Continuing Education on three campuses in New Martinsville, Weirton and Wheeling. This new agreement compliments WVNCC’s Applied Technology programs such as:  Advanced Manufacturing; Industrial Maintenance Technology; Instrumentation Process Technology; Petroleum Technology; HVACR; and Welding.
