Counseling Center
Mission Statement: The Wheeling University Counseling Center commits itself to the principles of holistic health and well-being and aspires to provide services which will support emotional health, personal growth, interpersonal development, and academic success. The counseling service staff offers education, assessment, intervention, outreach, consultation, and referral to other resources when necessary. A licensed independent clinical social worker provides these services in confidential context.
Office Hours: To schedule an appointment, call (304) 243-2081, stop by the Counseling Center office in Donahue 340, or email ttordella@wheeling.edu at your convenience. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Counseling services are free and available to any currently enrolled student.
Counseling Services
The WU Counseling Center offers individual consults, assessments, screenings, counseling services, advocacy, crisis interventions, information, linkage and referral. We also work collaboratively with the student’s treatment team, family, coaches, clergy and others as authorized by the student.
*No fees are charged for counseling sessions provided to WU students.
Staff
Counseling Services are provided by Tina Tordella, MSW, LICSW. The WU Counseling Service is Clinically Supervised by Dee Nazzaro, PhD, Licensed Clinical Psychologist.

Confidentiality
All Counseling Center records and services are confidential and are not part of your academic or health record. Any information that you disclose to the Counseling Center is safeguarded by state and federal privacy laws. Under these laws, we are responsible for protecting the confidentiality of mental health information. We may disclose information about you only with your written authorization. Confidentiality may be broken only under the following emergency conditions:
- When there is substantial risk of imminent and serious physical injury to you or to other persons.
- When the information you disclose contains evidence of current physical or sexual abuse of minor children, elderly adults, or adults with disabilities which make them more vulnerable to abuse; or
- When in response to a court order.
The staff of the Counseling Center will be pleased to answer any questions you might have concerning confidentiality.
