Alumni In Recruitment

Since 1954 Wheeling University has built an educational system strong in academic excellence. Our like minded alumni share a common experience, an educational structure that has prepared them to be leaders in their communities, exceptional professionals in their field of work and life-long learners in a complex society. The activity of serving with and for others is a core value in our mission statement. It’s the core value which inspires alumni like you to support your university. As an alumni volunteer, you can encourage academically talented students to attend your alma mater. By sharing your pride and experiences with high school and transfer students, you strengthen the university and the world.

As an AIR volunteer, your involvement will provide the personal attention that can shape a student’s college choice. Sharing what you know about Wheeling University will give prospective students an inside, personal look into what makes the University special.

The AIR program is a collaborative effort between Alumni Council, the Alumni Office and the Office of Enrollment Management. Thank you for your consideration.

Help Us Grow

Alumni in Recruitment (AIR) volunteers can help Wheeling University’s admissions efforts in three ways. AIR volunteers are encouraged to participate in one or more of the following activities:

Adopt a High School

AIR volunteers can establish a connection with high schools in their area and provide principals, guidance counselors, teachers and others with information about Wheeling University. Activities include delivering recruitment materials to schools, networking and building relationships with high school leaders, talking with prospective students at those schools about WU and providing WU admissions reps with feedback on visits.

Attend a College Fair

College Fairs are programs that introduce high school students to many different colleges. Alumni can represent the University and speak with students and their parents about the Wheeling University experience and distribute recruitment materials. The Office of Enrollment Management receives hundreds of invitations each year to participate in these programs. While the admissions office handles many fairs across the country, it is not possible for them to attend all of the events. It is quite common for alumni to represent their alma mater at college fairs. Through the help of AIR volunteers, Wheeling University is able to have a presence in many regions across the country.

Community Networking

WU alumni who wish to become involved can choose from two programs.

Refer a Student You Know
Alumni who know of a high school student who would benefit from a WU education can deliver admissions materials and become the first point of contact. In some cases, just personally delivering a viewbook is all you need to know. In other cases, the Admissions process is facilitated by talking with those young men and women about what Wheeling University has to offer as well as your experiences, outcomes and post-graduation successes, all grounded in your education at WU.

Introduce Admissions Reps to School Officials
Alumni who are school officials or who have connections at high schools in their area can make an impact by helping link WU admissions reps to superintendents, principals, guidance counselors and teachers at high schools in their hometown. If there are officials at a local high school that you have contact with, we ask you to serve as the liaison between members of the University community and the high school officials, providing the link to bring these two groups together.
