WHEELING, WV

January 16, 2020 Wheeling, WV – Wheeling University and Belmont College in St. Clairsville, Ohio, are partnering through a formal articulation agreement to offer Belmont College students the chance to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Wheeling University.

Students who begin their educational career at Belmont College and complete an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice would have a guaranteed transfer to Wheeling University to complete the final two years and to earn a bachelor’s degree.

“This partnership will help our criminal justice graduates achieve a seamless transfer to Wheeling University” said Dr. Paul F. Gasparro, President, Belmont College. “This is an important agreement which focuses on student success. We are always pleased to create new agreements with four-year institutions and to assist our students in moving on toward advanced degrees.”

Wheeling University’s bachelor’s program in criminal justice is designed to show how the components of the criminal justice system work together and depend on one another.  Students are able to pursue particular interests in criminal justice by choosing from a wide variety of elective courses or by combining criminal justice with a major or minor in other disciplines.  Beyond the classroom, internships may be available in law enforcement, as well as government and social service agencies.

“We welcome the opportunity to bring onto campus the excellent students from Belmont College to continue their education,” said Ginny Favede, President of Wheeling University. “According to a report from the National Center for Education Statistics, as of fall 2012 forty percent of all college undergraduates were enrolled in community colleges. This agreement allows students more opportunities to move along in their educational career while saving money. Partnerships allow us to collaboratively work together to benefit both of our institutions and meet our mission while working together instead of competing against one another. It’s a win-win situation for all.”
