Wheeling University Chosen a Best Value College in WV and Nation by Niche.com
WHEELING, W.Va., Sept. 19 – Niche is the latest national ranking service to recognize that Wheeling University provides students a quality education at an affordable price. In its 2023 college rankings, Niche selected Wheeling as the second Best Value College in West Virginia.
Additionally, the online ranking service chose the University as a Best Value College in the nation, ranking it 356 out of 1,875 colleges reviewed. This places the University in the top 19 percent of institutions across the country for value.
“National ranking services continue to recognize Wheeling University for the high quality, Catholic education we offer students. More importantly, this ranking acknowledges the University as being a best value across the state and the country,” said University President Ginny R. Favede. “Wheeling University was founded in 1954 to provide an affordable Catholic education to students, and this institution remains true to those core principles today.”
Niche gave Wheeling University a grade of A- for value, which was the highest grade giving to any campus-based institution in West Virginia. It is the second time in two years the Niche has awarded the University this distinction. American Public University System, an all online university, was the only institution in the state ranked higher than Wheeling this year. The state’s largest institution, West Virginia University, placed third best for value.
“Recognition by external organizations, who commend us for our academic rigor, affordability, outstanding learning environment and student-centered services, is a testament to our commitment giving each student a great educational experience. This recognition by Niche is a tribute to the dedicated faculty who deliver Wheeling University students a well-rounded education,” President Favede added.
Wheeling had an overall grade of B+ from Niche. The University received an A- for diversity, and received a B+ for its faculty, student life and campus safety, and a B for academics.
Niche.com, an online rankings and review site founded in 2002, explores colleges to determine which institutions are a best value based on a variety of factors. Niche uses data from the U.S. Department of Education, as well as reviews from students and alumni, to rigorously analyze and rank colleges and universities.
President Favede said by looking at a variety of data sources and reviews to determine its rankings, “Niche provides students and parents a holistic picture of what Wheeling University offers – from academics to campus life to faculty – and compares those grades to our competition. Since our founding, Wheeling University has offered students a well-rounded education that seeks to instill in all its students a quest to be lifelong learning.”
